Brand Overview

Zibar represents a family of Israeli high-mobility 4x4 vehicles designed for extreme off-road conditions. The platforms support dual military and civilian use with a focus on adaptability for special operations, search and rescue, and security roles. Core design features include high ground clearance, monocoque or chassis construction, and extensive use of commercial off-the-shelf GM components for reliability and rapid deployment.

History and Ownership Changes

The Zibar family was originally designed and developed in 1998 by Ido Cohen of Ido Off Road Center Ltd. in Israel. In 2013 approximately 30 Zibar vehicles were delivered to PEMEX in Mexico and later transferred to the Mexican Army.

A major transition occurred in 2020 when Israel Aerospace Industries acquired the manufacturing operations of Zibar, ZMAG, and ZED from Ido Off Road Center Ltd. Production subsequently moved to the IAI ELTA Systems Land Systems Division in Beer Sheva. In 2022 IAI secured a $30 million contract from the Israel Ministry of Defense for 30 ZMAG vehicles intended for special operations units. By 2025 more than 70 vehicles had been produced with users including the Israeli military and customers in Africa, Russia, Latin America, and Abu Dhabi.

Product Family and Platform Development

Zibar follows a one-platform multiple-layout philosophy. The core platform is a high-mobility 4x4 all-terrain vehicle equipped with GM LS or LQ-series V8 engines, automatic transmissions, Dana axles, and ARB lockers. Design highlights include extreme approach and departure angles and ground clearance reaching up to 550 mm under the body. Vehicles remain air-transportable by C-130 and CH-53 aircraft and comply with Generic Vehicle Architecture standards.
