Changfeng History

China Changfeng Group established the No.7319 Factory in 1950 as a defense contractor in Hunan province. The facility focused on manufacturing rugged off-road and military vehicles for state use. Its primary location remained in Hunan with additional plants in Yangzi and Anhui.

In 1988 the company began manufacturing SUVs under license for Beijing BJ2020 models. The civilian shift accelerated in 1996 with the establishment of Changfeng Auto Manufacturing. That same year it started licensed production of Mitsubishi vehicles including the Pajero and introduced the Lièbào brand, later known as Leopaard.

The company began exporting vehicles in 2006. A short-lived compact hatchback called the Kylin was produced through a joint venture with Bird Technology. Main products during this core era included light trucks primarily for state use, SUVs, and licensed Mitsubishi models.

In 2009 the legal name changed from Hunan Changfeng Motor Co to GAC Changfeng Motor Co Ltd. GAC Group acquired full control in 2012 after Mitsubishi sold its shares, leading to delisting from the Shanghai stock exchange on March 20, 2012. Hunan Liebao Automobile Co. Ltd was subsequently created to manage Leopaard brand production and sales.

Changfeng Logo Evolution

1950–2011: Military and Early Civilian Period

Changfeng logo

The earliest Changfeng logo history reflects the company’s origins as a defense contractor under the China Changfeng Group. This period emphasized durability and reliability inherited from military-grade manufacturing. Visual records from this era remain limited in available sources.

  • Design: Associated with rugged off-road identity
  • Colors: Not extensively documented
  • Changes: Maintained military-rooted visual approach
  • Context: Used from founding through the 1988 BJ2020 license and 1996 civilian transition

2012–Present: GAC Changfeng and Leopaard Era

The most significant update to the Changfeng car logo occurred in 2012 coinciding with the GAC Group acquisition. This redesign introduced a modern emblem that balanced consumer appeal with the brand’s durable heritage. The Changfeng symbol now appears across GAC Changfeng and Hunan Liebao operations.

  • Design: Triangle with circular cutouts encased in an oval border
  • Colors: Vivid red symbolizing energy and passion
  • Changes: Shift from military identity to minimalist yet bold geometric style
  • Context: Created after 2012 corporate restructuring and launch of Hunan Liebao Automobile Co. Ltd

The circles in the Changfeng emblem represent wheels in motion while the geometric precision suggests technological advancement and agility. This design reflects the company’s evolution from defense manufacturing to civilian vehicle production. The Changfeng badge continues to signal reliability rooted in its 1950 origins.

The current Changfeng logo png files show the red triangle and oval configuration adopted during the GAC transition. Updated assets including Changfeng logo transparent background versions support consistent brand presentation across digital and print materials.

Changfeng Legacy

Changfeng logo evolution mirrors the company’s journey from a 1950 defense factory to a modern automotive manufacturer under GAC. The transition from military roots to the Leopaard consumer brand demonstrates successful adaptation while preserving core values of durability. Its licensed production partnerships with Beijing and Mitsubishi helped establish SUV manufacturing expertise in China.

The 2012 Changfeng car symbol update marked the completion of the shift toward a consumer-focused identity. The brand operated through Hunan Liebao Auto until production ceased in 2020, leaving behind a reputation for rugged, reliable vehicles developed over more than six decades in Hunan province.
