Haima Brand History

Haima was established in January 1992 as Hainan Mazda Motor, a joint venture between the Hainan provincial government and Mazda. The brand name Haima is a contraction of Hainan Mazda and literally means seahorse in Chinese. Its headquarters are located in Haikou, Hainan, China.

The company operated under the Hainan Mazda name until a pivotal change occurred in 2006. At that time Mazda exited the joint venture, selling its stake to FAW Group. This ownership shift meant the company could no longer use the Mazda marque and needed to establish its own distinct identity. The transition emphasized independence while retaining technical knowledge from the earlier partnership.

Following the 2006 change Haima continued developing products as a subsidiary of FAW Group, later operating under Hainan Automobile Group ownership. The brand name and logo were updated to reinforce its standalone position in the Chinese automotive market.

Haima Logo Evolution

2006–present: Independent Haima Era

Haima logo

The current Haima logo was introduced following the 2006 ownership change and rebranding. This design marks the brand’s shift to an independent identity separate from its former Mazda connection. The Haima logo features a central stylized silver wing enclosed in a silver circular frame.

  • Design: Horizontal streamlined aerodynamic wing symbolizing a mythical bird flying away from a rising sun, enclosed in a circular frame
  • Colors: Silver representing technology innovation and precision, paired with navy blue for sophistication reliability and trustworthiness
  • Changes: Replaced earlier Mazda-derived branding with original symbols focused on movement and new beginnings
  • Context: Created to establish a distinct visual identity after the joint venture ended while preserving themes of progress and freedom

The Haima car logo meaning centers on the winged mythical bird and rising sun, which together represent the brand’s transition from its origins as Hainan Mazda to a self-standing Chinese automaker. This symbolism reinforces ideas of freedom, speed, and the dawn of an independent era.

The silver wing forms the core of the Haima emblem. Its aerodynamic shape suggests motion and advancement appropriate for an automotive brand. The enclosing circular frame adds a sense of completeness and unity.

Haima symbol design uses a modern lowercase sans-serif font for the brand name displayed below the circular emblem. The combination of silver and navy blue creates a professional appearance that conveys both innovation and trust. This visual approach helped Haima establish recognition following its rebranding.

Many automotive enthusiasts search for Haima logo history to understand how the brand visually separated from its Mazda roots. The post-2006 design successfully created a unique badge that references progress without relying on the previous partner’s imagery. The Haima car symbol continues to appear on vehicles as a mark of the company’s independent development phase that began in 2006.
