SiTech was one of the wave of Chinese electric-car startups that launched in the late 2010s with government backing and a state automaker as partner. It built one small city car in real volume, briefly hit an encouraging production milestone, then collapsed within two years when subsidies were cut. The SiTech logo, a swept wing-and-arrow mark above the wordmark “S1TECH,” survives mostly in photos of the DEV1 hatchback it was built for.
SiTech Brand Overview
The company behind SiTech was incorporated in September 2017 in Gui’an New Area, a state-level development zone in Guizhou province, with Xian Yue as co-founder and chief executive.
In January 2018, SiTech struck a manufacturing partnership with FAW Group, and its first car, the DEV1, was built at a FAW-affiliated plant. The DEV1, an A-segment hatchback with a 35 kWh battery and roughly 350 km of range, debuted at the Beijing Auto Show that April and went on sale in the third quarter of 2018, priced from about 139,900 to 164,900 yuan before subsidies. Production ramped quickly: SiTech reported its 4,000th DEV1 rolling off the line by the end of 2018.
The momentum did not last. When national purchase subsidies for electric cars were cut in March 2019, SiTech raised the DEV1’s price instead of lowering it, and sales collapsed to fewer than 720 units, or under 140 a month, in the first five months of the year. SiTech later added two more models, the compact AEVS hatchback (related to the Kandi K27) and the MEV sedan, a rebadged version of the FAW-built Bestune B30 with a 51 kWh battery, but neither reversed the decline. During 2019 the company relocated to Chongqing and was renamed Chongqing SiTech New Energy Vehicle; founder Xian Yue was replaced as chief executive by Hu Jun, and the brand stopped selling cars under the SiTech name. The reorganized company relaunched in August 2021 with a new brand, Electric House (also rendered EV House), and a new model called the YOUNG, built on a body shell that carries over the DEV1’s dimensions and wheelbase.
SiTech Logo Meaning
SiTech unveiled its logo, rather than a car, first. At a “Hi, Tomorrow” brand event held in the United States in January 2018, three months before the DEV1 even appeared in public, the company presented the mark under Swiss chief designer Cédric Allemann: an angular, folded shape suggesting a wing or a paper dart in mid-flight, paired with a squared-off wordmark reading “S1TECH,” where the numeral 1 does double duty as the letter I. No source documents an official meaning for the wing shape, but its forward-leaning, arrow-like form fits the launch messaging around speed, mobility, and a brand meant to feel new rather than industrial.
SiTech Logo History and Evolution
2018–2020: The launch mark

SiTech only ever used one logo. It appeared on the DEV1, AEVS, and MEV during the brand’s roughly two years on the market and was never revised before the company folded at the end of 2020.
- Design: A single-color, folded wing or dart shape above a squared “S1TECH” wordmark, the numeral 1 standing in for the letter I
- Colors: Black on white, as used in press and marketing materials
- Changes: None recorded; this was SiTech’s only logo
- Context: Introduced at a January 2018 US launch event ahead of the DEV1’s own debut
What Happened to SiTech?
SiTech did not go bankrupt in the ordinary sense of disappearing outright. It ran out of money as a standalone brand, relocated to Chongqing, and went through a corporate restructuring under new chief executive Hu Jun. In August 2021 the same company relaunched with a new, budget-focused brand, Electric House (also rendered EV House), whose first model, the YOUNG, shares the DEV1’s wheelbase and body dimensions, though it was marketed as a fresh start rather than as a renamed DEV1.
FAQ
Who founded SiTech?
SiTech was founded in 2017 by Xian Yue as an independent Chinese EV startup based in Gui’an New Area, Guizhou, before it partnered with FAW Group in January 2018 to manufacture its cars in Changchun.
Who owns SiTech now?
SiTech is defunct as a car brand. The company behind it moved to Chongqing and restructured during 2019 under new chief executive Hu Jun, then relaunched under the Electric House (EV House) brand in 2021 with new investors.
What does the SiTech logo mean?
No official explanation of the design has been published. The mark is a folded, wing-like shape that reads as an arrow or a paper dart, paired with the wordmark “S1TECH,” and it was the only logo the brand ever used.
Why did SiTech fail?
SiTech built its business around a single low-priced hatchback, the DEV1. When China cut electric-vehicle subsidies in March 2019, SiTech raised the DEV1’s price rather than cut it, sales fell sharply, and the company could not recover before folding in 2020.
Is the SiTech DEV1 still made?
No. The SiTech-badged DEV1 stopped selling when the brand wound down at the end of 2020. Its maker relaunched in 2021 as Electric House with a similarly sized model, the YOUNG, but that car was not sold under the DEV1 or SiTech names.
