International Brand History
International Harvester was founded in 1902 in Chicago, Illinois through the merger of McCormick Harvesting Machine Company, Deering Harvester Company, and three smaller firms. The company initially focused on agricultural machinery while also manufacturing trucks. In 1985 the agricultural division was divested to Tenneco and merged into Case IH. The following year the company renamed to Navistar International Corporation while the truck division adopted the simplified International brand name.
Current headquarters are located in Lisle, Illinois. International Trucks specializes in medium-duty, heavy-duty, and severe-service trucks and remains a subsidiary of Navistar International. Since 2020 the company has been owned by TRATON SE, part of the Volkswagen Truck & Bus group.

International Logo Meaning and Legacy
The evolution of the International logo directly reflects major corporate milestones. The original 1902 monogram coincided with founding while the 1946 Raymond Loewy redesign created the iconic red and black International symbol many still associate with the heritage. The 1986 shift to the International wordmark with diamond road occurred after the agricultural divestiture and rename to Navistar.
The road line in later logos directly references truck and transport manufacturing. No logo change accompanied the 2020 acquisition by TRATON SE, with the current orange 3D design remaining in use. This visual history illustrates how International logo evolution mirrored the company’s transformation from agricultural roots to a focused truck manufacturer.
The International emblem continues to represent decades of engineering and innovation in commercial vehicles. Many enthusiasts seek International logo png, International logo transparent, or International logo hd versions for reference and historical study of the brand’s visual journey.
