Jensen Brand History

Jensen Motors Limited was established in 1934 by brothers Richard Jensen and Alan Jensen after they took over the predecessor entity W J Smith & Sons Limited, which had been founded in 1922. The company specialised in British sports and GT cars as well as commercial vehicles, with its headquarters located in West Bromwich, England. Key milestones include acquisition by Norcros Limited in 1959, the resignation of the Jensen brothers from the board in 1966, and the sale to merchant bank William Brandts in 1968.

In 1970 Kjell Qvale became majority shareholder and Donald Healey was appointed chairman, leading to the launch of the Jensen-Healey in 1972. Production ceased in 1976 when the company entered receivership. A later revival between 1998 and 2002 produced the S-V8 model in Liverpool, but Jensen Motors Limited was formally dissolved in 2011.

Jensen Logo Evolution

The Jensen car logo showed minimal changes throughout the primary manufacturing period, remaining tied to the original brand identity established in 1934. Visual traits were consistent across sports cars and GT models, reflecting the stability of the Jensen emblem during decades of production.

Jensen logo

The Jensen logo during the main production era featured a text-based wordmark that appeared on flagship models such as the Interceptor, C-V8 and FF. This period represents the core use of the Jensen symbol on vehicles manufactured in West Bromwich.

  • Design: Primarily text-based Jensen wordmark with occasional winged emblems or shield-like elements
  • Colors: Monochrome or simple schemes including black, silver and red accents
  • Changes: Organic typography adjustments rather than major redesigns
  • Context: Applied to sports cars, GT vehicles and commercial JNSN models from founding through to closure

Post-1976 the Jensen badge became a historical asset transferred with company ownership. The same core identity was reused in the limited 1998–2002 S-V8 revival without documented new variants. Jensen logo history therefore shows long-term visual continuity rather than frequent updates.
