Brand History
Facel S.A., formally known as Forges et Ateliers de Construction d’Eure-et-Loir, was founded in 1939 as a metal-stamping company producing steel components for aviation. After merging with Métallon in 1945, the company began coachbuilding special bodies for other marques. Métallon left the partnership in 1953, prompting Facel to create its own complete cars.
Jean Daninos launched the Facel Vega brand in 1954, with the first model shown to the public that year. The main production era of luxury automobiles ran from 1954 to 1964. In 1959 the company introduced the Facellia sports car as it shifted toward smaller all-French models. Jean Daninos resigned in 1961, after which the company came under the control of Sud Aviation subsidiary SFERMA. Facel closed in October 1964.
The brand positioned itself in the luxury segment by blending French elegance with American V8 power. Its name combined Facel from the company initials with Vega, a star in the Lyra constellation. The HK500 stood as the most notable achievement during the main production period.
Facel Vega Logo Evolution
1939–1961: Rectangular Facel Paris Emblem

The first Facel Vega logo was used for over 40 years from the company’s founding through the early years of Facel Vega production. It appeared on vehicles during the 1954 brand launch. This emblem maintained a consistent visual identity during the coachbuilding phase and the initial luxury car period.
- Design: Rectangular shape with a diagonal split and stylized lettering including an extra tall narrow red F with light gray outline and an enlarged bold V
- Colors: Light gray framing, muted yellow, black, and red accents
- Changes: None during its long usage period
- Context: Served throughout the early company years and the first seven years of Facel Vega automobile production
1961–1964: Circular Metallic Emblem with Stars

The second Facel Vega logo was introduced in 1961 and remained in use until the company’s closure. The redesign happened during a period of change that included Jean Daninos’s resignation and the introduction of later models. Stars incorporated into the design aligned with the Vega name origin.
- Design: Circular format featuring a monogram style with italicized and bolder first letters F and V
- Colors: Metallic gradient, gray border, and black stars
- Changes: Complete transformation from rectangular to round shape while preserving core brand identity
- Context: Used during the final years of production amid financial pressures until the October 1964 closure
The Facel Vega logo history shows a clear evolution that mirrored the company’s development from its aviation and coachbuilding roots to its luxury automobile period. Both the Facel Vega emblem and its later circular version reflected the brand’s French heritage and distinctive character.
